Utilizing Your Mentor
Using the Outline Developed in the Grant Writing Tutorial
The Grant Writing Tutorial was designed to help new or minority researchers in the development of a research grant proposal, specifically in drug abuse research. It is an interactive site that allows you to create an outline for your proposed research project. This outline can be used as a catalyst for developing a relationship with a mentor. The outline helps you to conceptualize the type of research project you would like to pursue. By developing this outline, you are able to concretely discuss with a prospective mentor what your thoughts are for the project. This shows the prospective mentor that not only are you serious about advancing the science of substance abuse, but that you are also able to communicate some of your goals for following through on a research project.
