Appendices
- Information placed in appendices should be completely nonessential and supplemental. This is not an opportunity to expand your research plan! In fact, reviewers tend to look quite unfavorably on applications that include information in the appendix when that information belonged elsewhere in the body of the proposal.
- The following types of information are acceptable for inclusion in appendices:
- Up to 10 publications, manuscripts, abstracts, patents, or other print materials directly related to the project that have been created by the applicant or members of the proposed research team.
- Surveys, questionnaires, data collection instruments, and clinical protocols.
- Original glossy photographs or color images. However, a photocopy of the image must appear within the research plan.
Appendix limitations may or may not apply to specialized grant applications. Applicants should check the instructions of their application package for more specific instructions.
- Remember, only primary reviewers receive the appendices for your proposal, so do not put essential information in the appendix. All pertinent information should be included in the text. Also remember that no reviewer is obligated to review anything presented in an appendix. It is entirely at that reviewer's discretion whether or not to read or consider appendix materials in his or her overall evaluation of your grant proposal's merit.
