Budgets and Other Support

  • Writing budgets and budget justifications can be difficult, but it is a learned skill. Click here for descriptions and guidance on the different parts of a budget.

  • Remember, if you are planning to submit one of the grants described above as a Modular Grants, budget reporting regulations are different than the ones described in this tutorial. In brief, applications will request direct costs in $25,000 modules (up to $250,000 in direct costs per year), and budget requests will be written in narrative form. Form pages 4 and 5 of the PHS 398 will not be used in submitting Modular Grants. To see sample Modular Grant budget descriptions, visit the Modular Grant Website.
