Scientific Review Group

The first review of the application is done by a peer review panel to objectively evaluate the scientific worth of the application in the context of current knowledge. Members of the SRG are selected from active and productive researchers in the scientific community and are chosen with special emphasis on the personal qualities of objectivity, ethics, integrity, mature judgement, and the ability to work as a member of a team. SRG members are nominated by other scientists and members of the funding institute's staff. IRGs meet for 2 to 3 days, 3 times a year, and review many applications per session. Individual members of the SRG are also responsible for a preliminary review of applications to determine whether they should be considered at the group meeting. There are usually 12 members in each SRG study section. The membership list of standing IRGs can be found online.
